Good Afternoon!
There is so much in the news about COVID-19. Some of what you’re possibly reading and seeing in the media is accurate; some of it may not be. Your health and wellbeing are top priorities to me at Behavioral Medicine Associates, LLC. There are a lot of concerns regarding the potential spread of COVID-19. I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I am committed to doing my part to keeping myself and you healthy. I continue to monitor the news updates and recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (and encourage you to do the same), and I'm keeping a close eye on information published by local officials and those in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As a standard operating practice during this time, Behavioral Medicine Associates, LLC is regularly disinfecting all common areas and surfaces within the office with the appropriate cleaning solutions. However, during this period of heightened concern, I have implemented additional preventative measures, including:
Increased personal sanitation and hygiene procedures for myself, which includes washing and disinfecting hands repeatedly throughout the day and before and after interactions with each client.
Sanitizing areas available for your convenience in high traffic areas throughout the practices’ office (e.g., door handles, arm rests on chairs, etc.).
I want to assure you I plan to stay home if I am not feeling well or have been at risk of exposure.
THE PRACTICE WILL REMAIN OPEN
I encourage you to also take appropriate precautions. If you are feeling unwell or have been at risk of exposure, please contact the practice and we will have our scheduled appointment remotely (also referred to as telehealth or telepsychology), using the practices HIPAA-compliant video communication platform, VSee. If you haven’t previously worked with me on this video communications platform, I will be sending you an invite to join (it’s free), so we’re all set to go, in the event you need to quarantine yourself. I have contacted your health insurance company; they will continue to pay for your services as they always have—even if we consult remotely.
I am your healthcare provider and as such, the practice will remain open during normal business hours (and will not close), as the practice works through the management of COVID-19. I remain available to you throughout this crisis, and, to be of service during this difficult time.
YOU CAN CONTINUE TO RECEIVE YOUR HEALTHCARE SAFELY
Limiting in-person social interaction is the key to reducing potential spread of COVID-19. Again, I encourage you to rely on the practice's digital and technology services for your healthcare needs should you not be able to attend an in-person consultation, until the threat of the virus has passed. I ask that you be mindful of practicing good hygiene by washing your hands regularly, and again, follow the guidelines and recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If you are sick, I ask that you not visit in-person, and instead rely on the digital communication platform outlined above (assuming you are feeling well enough to do so, even for simple emotional support).
I remain committed to helping you prioritize your health and wellbeing no matter the circumstances. Here are some helpful tips to help you stay healthy during this time:
Maintain proper nutrition, especially before and after being active.
It’s important to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated can improve your metabolism, digestion and can help with your energy levels.
Do your best to acquire sufficient sleep to restore your body—talk with me about possibly napping if necessary (especially if we’re working on a sleep problem, like chronic insomnia). During this period, we will modify sleep schedules to try to help you attain 7-9 hours of sleep if possible, as this can impact recovery, performance, immune function, and mental clarity.
Be intentional about practicing a regular healthy lifestyle routine (e.g., regular exercise and relaxation), getting out into nature, and spending a few minutes each day meditating. All of these can help manage and lower stress levels.
I am committed to doing everything I can to help you create a healthy environment, and I very much appreciate your efforts. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
BE PREPARED, NOT SCARED.
Finally, I would like to say something about the normal anxiety and fear that is present: There’s a reason for it, given the circumstances surrounding all the unknown about this virus. And the problem is, there is some misinformation in the media that is fueling an increase in fear to the point of panic which is not helpful. And, our neighbors, family, and friends are increasingly anxious as well—which is quite contagious! Check out how this psychologist suggests we manage COVID-19 fears.
Stay informed…..
I am looking forward to seeing you in the office soon!
Yours in health and peace,
Dr. Andy
